For the second time in less than two weeks, a poker player has been acquitted on charges of illegal gambling activity relating to poker. POKER

Prosecutors in the Colorado case were trying a man for organizing bar poker games with his friends. While the man did not think he was breaking the law, he was arrested.

Colorado State Director of the PPA, Gary Reed said: “The PPA is pleased with the outcome of this case. It is further confirmation that poker is indeed a game of skill, not chance. At the same time, the not guilty verdict cements the rights of Colorado citizens to enjoy the American pastime of poker and will allow law enforcement to use its scarce resources to investigate real unlawful activity in the state, not poker games,”.

Last week, a Pennsylvania judge ruled that poker was a game of skill, and in Kentucky, an Appeals Court took away Governor Steve Beshear’s self proclaimed right to seize online gambling domain names.

In Omaha poker, the button represents the dealer position at the table. The dealer position is considered the strongest playing position.poker

The blinds are mandatory bets placed by the two players to the left of the button, the player to the immediate left posts the small blind and the second player to the left of the button places the big blind.

The blind amount is set by the minimum bet amount for the table.

When a new player sits down at the table and they are not in the big blind position, the player will be required to post an amount equivalent to the big blind in order to join in the game. If they choose not to post the big blind, they must wait until they are in the big blind position to start play at the table.

Texas Hold’em the easiest game to bluff

Posted by admin in Poker on February 9th, 2009 |  No Comments »

Texas Hold’em poker is by far the easiest game to bluff.

Each player only has two hole cards so the odds of them catching a solid hand off of the flop are pretty low so the standard bluff on the flop will give you the pot a decent percentage of the time. poker

Most players will call these bets on a regular basis even if they do not have a pair or a draw.

Omaha poker is a bit harder to bluff because each player receives 4 hole cards and thus has many more possibilities. Players will usually call any bet if they have a draw for a strong straight or flush.

The best game to bluff is Texas Hold’em.

There’s nothing worse in poker than being bluffed out of a hand which you should have won. A person who gets bluffed not only loses the pot, but with each time it happens loses also a little respect from others at the table. For this reason, a lot of poker players will start calling everything just to avoid getting bluffed. poker

One of the easiest ways to catch a bluffing opponent is by looking at their betting patterns over an entire hand. If the opponent is making reasonable bets at each stage of a hand, then starts pouring money into the pot after a good card hits the board.
Who is bluffing usually displays erratic betting patterns, throwing out huge wagers when the board shows nothing.
For good reason, common poker strategy preaches to study opponents at the table. You’ll need this information to help you make any move in the game, but you’ll also need it to catch a person when they are bluffing. The more info on an opponent’s tendencies you’ve collected, the more likely you are to know when he is trying to make a bluff.
When studying this information, pay special attention to things like the aforementioned hand betting patterns, wagering patterns over a series of hands, how often the opponent stays past each street, and what kinds of cards they take to the showdown. It will take some time after entering the game to figure out everyone else’s game plan, but it is essential to do this.

Probably the most well known poker term is bluffing has been associated with the sport since its very beginnings.  It is the fine art of poker, you need to know when to bluff in order for it to be an effective weapon. poker10

When using the bluff you are trying to get all the other players to fold their hands, and do so as soon as possible.

Now you’re got to make sure you don’t undo all the work you’ve done.  You’ve got to keep working to make sure those who are trying to read your tells don’t spot the bluff.  One way of giving yourself away is by playing the bluff differently than you would a good hand. You most be careful to play it exactly the way have played the good hands that came before the bluff.  If you slow play then don’t jump the gun on a bluff.

You must learn to use the cards to your advantage when bluffing.   When the board shows a possible flush or straight, or even a high card that you could have the pair to, that’s when a bluff may be a good.  Again it goes back to representing that you have a good hand.  You’ll want to be bluffing good players that aren’t going to chase down whatever hand they have.

If you want to learn more about starting hands and how to play poker then most to know the poker hand ranking.pok

Before recognizing hand rankings one must know that value of cards. Ace is the highest ranked, followed by K, Q, and J down to two, which is the lowest, ranked. Single cards play an important role in deciding the winner among players when no deciding combinations are possible.

Royal Flush - A royal flush is a straight flush from Ace to Ten. The reason why this is considered the best hand in poker is because it has the least amount of ways to make the hand. There are 2,598,960 various poker hands in a pack of fifty-two cards and 4 ways to make a Royal Flush, so the chance of making a royal in five cards is 1 in 649,740.

Straight Flush – A straight flush is any straight in the same suit that is not a Royal Flush. The chance of making a straight flush is rare, but it sure feels good when it happens.

Four of a Kind – A four of a kind is when you have four cards of the same rank.  I can only think of one occasion when you wouldn’t want four of a kind.

Full House – A Full House is three of a kind combined with a pair. Ex: QQQJJ.

Flush – A flush is any five cards of the same suit that are not in sequence . If two people have flushes, the player with the highest flush card is the winner.

Straight - Straights are poker hands with any five cards in sequence that are not of the same suit.

Three of a Kind – Three of a kind is when a player has three cards of the same rank. The two most popular poker terms used to describe three of a kind are “set” and “trips”.

Two Pair – Two pair is exactly what it sounds like ,EX: QQ or JJ. If two players have two pair, the player with the highest ranking pair wins the pot. If both players have the same top pair, then their  second comes into play.

One Pair – A pair is two cards of the same rank. If two players have a pair, then the player with the highest ranking pair wins. If both players have the same pair, then highest card that doesn’t coordinate come into play.

High Card - When a poker hand has no combination , the player with the highest card wins.

How To Play Three Card Poker

Posted by admin in Poker on January 4th, 2009 |  No Comments »

Three Card Poker is becoming on of the most popular new table games. poker

The game is played with a single deck of 52 cards. Three Card Poker is actually two games in one.

The Play
There are three betting circles in front of each seat. The top betting circle is labeled Pair Plus where the player puts a wager on the pair plus game. Beneath that are two circles labeled Ante and Play for the base game. The game starts with the player making a wager in the Pair Plus and or Ante circle equal to the table minimum.

After all the players have made their bets the dealer will give each player a three card.

Ante/Play
If a player has made a bet on the Ante they must make their decision to fold or play after looking at their hand.

After all the players have made their decisions, the dealer will turn over his three card hand. The dealer needs to qualify with a hand of Queen or higher for play to continue. If the dealer’s hand does not contain a Queen or higher all players still active in the hand will be paid even money for their Ante wager and their bet on the Play will be returned to them.

The Hand Rankings

Straight Flush. Three cards of the same suit in sequence. Example 6-7-8 of spades.
Three of a Kind. Three cards of equal rank.
Straight. Three cards in sequence of mixed suits.
Flush. Three cards of the same suit.
Pair. Two cards of equal rank.
High Card. The highest card in your hand.

Strategy
You should fold if you have a hand lower than Queen – 6 -4 and you should continue and make the Play bet if you hand is higher.

To determine if your hand is better than Q-6-4 start with your first highest card and compare it to the Queen, if it is higher you play. You ignore the other two cards. If your first card is a Queen and your second card is higher than 6 you would still play regardless of the ranking of your third card. If it is lower than 6 you don’t play.
