Poker Hands
If you want to learn more about starting hands and how to play poker then most to know the poker hand ranking.
Before recognizing hand rankings one must know that value of cards. Ace is the highest ranked, followed by K, Q, and J down to two, which is the lowest, ranked. Single cards play an important role in deciding the winner among players when no deciding combinations are possible.
Royal Flush - A royal flush is a straight flush from Ace to Ten. The reason why this is considered the best hand in poker is because it has the least amount of ways to make the hand. There are 2,598,960 various poker hands in a pack of fifty-two cards and 4 ways to make a Royal Flush, so the chance of making a royal in five cards is 1 in 649,740.
Straight Flush – A straight flush is any straight in the same suit that is not a Royal Flush. The chance of making a straight flush is rare, but it sure feels good when it happens.
Four of a Kind – A four of a kind is when you have four cards of the same rank. I can only think of one occasion when you wouldn’t want four of a kind.
Full House – A Full House is three of a kind combined with a pair. Ex: QQQJJ.
Flush – A flush is any five cards of the same suit that are not in sequence . If two people have flushes, the player with the highest flush card is the winner.
Straight - Straights are poker hands with any five cards in sequence that are not of the same suit.
Three of a Kind – Three of a kind is when a player has three cards of the same rank. The two most popular poker terms used to describe three of a kind are “set” and “trips”.
Two Pair – Two pair is exactly what it sounds like ,EX: QQ or JJ. If two players have two pair, the player with the highest ranking pair wins the pot. If both players have the same top pair, then their second comes into play.
One Pair – A pair is two cards of the same rank. If two players have a pair, then the player with the highest ranking pair wins. If both players have the same pair, then highest card that doesn’t coordinate come into play.
