I’m smiling this morning as Bob Baffert’s Bob & John my pick in the Derby has drawn the seven hole and this will allow him to get settled just off the pace and watch the rabbits in the race, run each other into the ground. If it comes up sloppy he has proven himself on this type of surface and he has been bumped around enough in California that the bulky field will not be an issue.

The US has been in violation of European Union trade agreements since they have cracked down on Internet gambling. The EU has given the US a grace period to correct their laws.

The EU has conducted an investigation that culminated earlier this year in a letter sent to the US.

EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton said: “Today was not a day to resolve any problems, but rather to set out the approach we are going to take, who would do what, and to agree to keep in touch,” .

Ashton, along with US Trade Representative Ron Kirk agreed to tackle the issues in the coming months.

The state of Kentucky went directly after the online gambling sites. They petitioned the court to seize 141 online gambling domain names. They won in the lower courts, but lost in the Court of Appeals.

Representative Pat Garofalo on Monday responded to the call for blockage by submitting legislation of his own.

EU online gambling firms lost billions of euros in value after the U.S. Congress in 2006 made it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites.

Macquarie Securities gaming analyst Joel Simkins told investors not to bet the house on Internet gambling becoming legal anytime soon.

His prognosis comes despite a White House that is seemingly friendlier toward Internet gamblers and the support of Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., who plans to reintroduce a bill after the Easter holiday that would legalize and regulate Internet gaming.

Lobbyist contacts and casino company operators dialed into Capitol Hill, Simkins put steep odds on the issue seeing any light.

Simkins said: “We see little reason for investors to try to play this near-term,”.
